whodunnit at Wellington City Spybraries

The school holidays are here!

The school holidays are here! The theme this April is WHODUNNIT? at Wellington City SPYbraries and we’ve planned a whole host of spy, detective, and mystery themed activities for you all.

Drop into your local library to solve The Mystery of the Golden Tickets, create your own Incognito Investigator Kit, pit your problem-solving skills against our Puzzle Room, learn how to play the classic spy game Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? on a modern computer, and much more! There’s even an online challenge for teens!

Check out our blog post for more information and a full list of kids’ events.

Tūhono: a journal of poetry by Wellington children and teens

We’re halfway through April, which means that Tūhono submissions have been open for two weeks!

Tūhono is our annual poetry journal for children and teens, and this year we’re asking you to write a poem on the theme of “Tūmanako | Hope”. Unlike some other poetry journals, as long as you follow the rules of submission every piece of work that gets sent to us will be published!

Submissions will be open until the 12th of May, check out our blog post for more information.

To celebrate the launch of her latest book The Wolf and the Hocus Pocus, author Avril McDonald is visiting libraries across the Wellington region with a series of special storytimes.

Avril is the author of the Feel Brave series, which tells stories that help tamariki manage tough emotions and includes books for the children of first responders who may feel scared or worried about their parents.

During the storytime sessions Avril will be joined by the Feel Brave puppets and will deliver a fun session of stories, songs, as well as some well-being exercises that help children deal with BIG feelings. More information can be found in our blog post.

Join master storyteller and illustrator Paul Beavis (Nee Naw, There Was an Odd Farmer Who Swallowed a Fly, Ring Ting Tūī) for this drawing workshop like no other!

Learn all about how a picture book is made, draw along with Paul to pick up some new skills, and maybe even be inspired to start a picture book of your own!
