Best Books of the Year for Young NZ readers winners announced!

2023 NZCYA Book Awards: Winners Announced!

Our most heartfelt congratulations to all our finalists and award-winning authors in the New Zealand Book Awards For Children And Young Adults!

This year, the Supreme Winner was multi-talented author and illustrator Mat Tait, for his book Te Wehenga: The Separation of Ranginui and Papatūānuku. This beautifully-crafted pukapuka not only won the Margaret Mahy Book of the Year Award, but also the Elsie Locke Award for Non-Fiction, and it is the first reorua/bilingual book ever to take out the Supreme Award. Mat has created a taonga to be treasured for generations to come.

Aotearoa Tūmanako: Children’s Art. Works for a peaceful world 2023

Come visit Waitohi Hub on the lower ground of Johnsonville Library, between 11th and 31st August, to see this superb exhibition of children’s artwork.  

Tūmanako gives tamariki/children and taiohi/young people (under 18) the opportunity to express their creativity and share their aspirations for a peaceful, inclusive, and nuclear-free world. This is the eighth year of Tūmanako, with this year’s special theme being “one seed of thought grows the forest of peace.” Learn more about Tūmanako 2023 on our blog.

Buenas noticias! We are happy to announce a new programme called Cuentacuentos, storytime sessions entirely in Spanish! Join us at Te Mahanga Karori Library every first Saturday of the month at 11 AM, starting 2 September.

 

Get ready for engaging storytelling and exciting activities that will entertain the whole whānau.

This is a great place to go to start to learn Pasifika languages including Lea Faka-Tonga, Gagana Sāmoa, Vagahau Niue, Te Reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani & Gagana Tokelau.
