What’s on for tamariki at the library: In-person and online!

By Katie

Looking for something to keep tamariki entertained, whether it’s an outing or from the comfort of your own home? We've got you!

Rows of chapter books sitting on black shelves. A sign at the front reads "Tamariki - children. Kōrero paki - fiction."

The library has everything your tamariki need to be entertained and explore their interests in a way that is budget friendly. Not sure where to start? Click here to discover what the library offers for tamariki – events, books, homework help, & more.

If you want to plan a visit to our physical sites, click here for more information about our locations, opening hours and services. Accessing our online services will sometimes require you to logon to your library account using your library card number (on the back of your card underneath the barcode) and typing in a four-digit pin.

If you’re not a member and want to join, get your parents or caregivers to sign you up online and find your nearest library to pick up your physical card.

Here are some of the ways you can keep kids entertained at the library:

Exploring our library collection

Search our catalogue, explore our collections, or check out what’s new at the library to find collections, including books, movies, and other media for tamariki of all ages at all of our branches.

Getting creative at our makerspace

Tūhura HIVE is our makerspace and sound studio at Waitohi | Johnsonville Library. From 3D printing, audio recording, coding, robotics, and electronics, to sewing, weaving and more, we offer endless opportunities for everyone to get inspired and create. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at thehive@wcc.govt.nz. Alternatively, come visit us — we'd love to see you!

Please note: Tamariki under 14 are required to be accompanied by someone responsible aged 14+ any time they are in the HIVE.

Streaming movies on Kanopy Kids

Kanopy Kids is Kanopy's curated collection of content for children, with a focus on ages 2-8. While in the Kanopy Kids section, you'll only see content that's age-appropriate and allows unlimited viewing.

Please note: An adult library card is required to access Kanopy.

Visiting the Kids eReading Room

Our free eBook and eAudiobook eReading Room on Libby contains thousands of fiction and nonfiction titles for children.

Bringing stories to life with Vox Books
