What is Wellington on a Plate?

Wellington on a Plate is an event in August where you can "Eat, Drink and Be Welly" by taking part in the largest food festival in Wellington. This year’s theme goes against the grain, where you are invited to “Play with Your Food”. You can expect interactive elements or “surprise and delight” moments.

Burger Wellington also returns from 5 - 25 August, where you can taste and rate all the burger goods across three delicious weeks. The only question that remains: who will be crowned with burger glory?

How can you celebrate?

Create your own burgers, drinks, and culinary goodness in the comfort of your own home, with the help of the following books to inspire more “play”:

John Jory's food group series

You’ll also love John Jory’s food group series where “food” are the main characters tackling life’s problems:

While you’re at it, why not borrow some food themed DVDs to compliment your WOAP meal at home, such as:

The Nut Job and The Nut Job 2

The Nut Job follows the travails of Surly, a mischievous squirrel, and his rat friend Buddy who plan a nut store heist of outrageous proportions. Unwittingly, they find themselves embroiled in a much more complicated and hilarious adventure.

In The Nut Job 2, they plan another nut store heist of outrageous proportions, and again find themselves entangled in a comical adventure.

Check out the trailer for The Nut Job! Or head over to YouTube for the trailer for The Nut Job 2.

Beauty and the Beast (1991) and Beauty and the Beast (2017)

Treat yourself to Walt Disney’s animated and live action films of Beauty and the Beast. We love the epic scene where Lumiere greets you with a "culinary cabaret" of “Be our guest”, and you don’t want to miss the beef ragout, cheese soufflé or pie and pudding en flambé.

To have a sneak preview of “the goods”, check out the trailers for the animated film (right here!), live action film, and this Be our guest singalong.

Luca

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s original feature film Luca is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato (YUM!), pasta (DOUBLE YUM!) and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface.

Ratatouille

Set in the great culinary city of Paris, Remy the rat dreams of culinary greatness; but it isn't until he comes across a human called Linguini (a very culinary name!) that he's able to realise his dreams. There are so many delicious dishes that we see throughout the film, but the care and beauty that is put into creating and animating the title dish (Ratatouille, of course!) is really something else!
