Mānawatia a Matariki me Puanga - School Holidays Wrap-Up!

By WCL librarians

As we prepare for another term back at school, let's look back at all the brilliant creations and special experiences from our July school holiday programme.

Kia ora koutou tamariki & whānau! We hope you all had a remarkable and restful school holiday, that you enjoyed reading wonderful Matariki pukapuka, and attending some of our Mānawatia a Matariki me Puanga events!

Our Matariki me Puanga Reading Challenge is still on-going, so you can head over to Beanstack to sign up and continue to keep Matariki me Puanga in your thoughts until the end of August.

Thanks to everyone who came along and helped make our Mānawatia a Matariki me Puanga programme so special! We hope to see you all again at Beyond the Page next holidays, or hopefully before then at your local library branch! To find out about our regular programmes, special events, and holiday happenings, you can sign up for our Kids and Families newsletter, or make sure to keep an eye-out on our kids’ stories, our Facebook page, or our events calendar.

The Children and Youth Services team would like to give a special thanks to our Māori Customer Specialist, Ann Reweti, Anton O'Carroll from Mataaho Aronui, and the wonderful members of our team who provided great event ideas and practical advice in making sure that events were aligned with tikanga.

Now let's look at some of the highlights from our libraries and community centres over the holidays!

Some of the crafts tamariki and their whānau created over the holidays at Raukawa Community Centre, Motu-kairangi | Miramar Library, and Tawa Community Centre.

Taiohi working on their Stop Motion creations at Te Awa-a-Taia | Ruth Gotlieb (Kilbirnie) Library and Te Māhanga | Karori Library.

LEGO® creations and their creators at Island Bay Community Centre, Tawa Community Centre, and Te Awe Library.

All sorts of seeds were planted at our event Puanga Kai Rau, with photos here from Te Takapū o Patukawenga | Mervyn Kemp (Tawa) Library, Island Bay Community Centre, and Waitohi | Johnsonville Library.

Gorgeous glow-in-the-dark nail art was created at Waitohi | Johnsonville Library and Te Takapū o Patukawenga | Mervyn Kemp (Tawa) Library.
