If you're looking for a place to study, whether on your own or in a group, why not visit your local library? All of our libraries have copies of NCEA study guides, free WiFi, tables, and chairs, and some have meeting rooms you can book for free if you're working in a group!
If you're studying in our spaces, we no longer require complete silence - the loudest thing you hear in the library may be the librarian at storytime reading Llama destroys the world! - but we do ask that everyone in the library is mindful of those around them. As well as conversation, food and drink are allowed in our libraries, but please, no hot food - keep those hot chips away!

Bridget Williams Books - Treaty of Waitangi Collection
Gathers together some of the finest writing and scholarship on New Zealand’s founding document online – including access to award-winning histories and commentaries, such as Claudia Orange’s The Treaty of Waitangi. -
Dictionary of New Zealand Biography
This website contains over 3,000 biographies of past New Zealanders who have ‘made their mark’ on this country. Entries are posthumous only – there are no entries for still living prominent New Zealanders. -
Encyclopaedia Britannica
Encyclopaedia Britannica Online offers over 73,000 encyclopaedia articles, along with a world atlas, an online dictionary and thesaurus, articles and news headlines. -
Explora Australia/New Zealand
A reference source for high school and tertiary students that searches across multiple sources in a single search. The New Zealand topic overviews are a feature in Explora that provides users with a helpful starting point for research. -

Offers access to more than 4,000 scholarships and awards for individuals. Part of the Generosity NZ suite of resources – the largest digital search facility for funding information in Aotearoa. See also givUS – for access to more than 1,200 grants and schemes for community groups. -

Oxford English Dictionary
The OED is the definitive record of the English language, featuring 600000 words, 3 million quotations, and over 1000 years of English. -
Primary Sources (Gale)
Simultaneously search or browse through all our Gale historical newspaper databases from the 1600s to the 21st century. Search includes archives for: Daily Mail 1896-2004, The Independent 1986-2012, International Herald Tribune 1887-2013, The Sunday Times 1822-2006, The Telegraph 1855-2000 and The Times (of London) 1785-2013, as well as some special collections. -
Te Ara: the Encyclopedia of New Zealand
In Māori, Te Ara means ‘the pathway’. Through interlinking text and image trails, the Encyclopedia takes you on a journey of discovery. The site also includes New Zealand’s last official encyclopedia from 1966. It is published here in full, with all the original drawings, maps and photographs. -
