School Holiday Programmes

Our libraries offer a variety of events and activities for tamariki and rangatahi during the school holidays. Find out what's on at your library these holidays!

A young child is stroking the neck of a llama as other children look on. The llama is wearing a lead that is being held at the other end by a librarian wearing a jumper decorated with prancing llamas.

Every school holidays, we put together a programme of fun and free events and activities for tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau.

In the upcoming April School Holidays, we invite you to join us for The Prehistoric Earth, a programme of events focusing on dinosaurs, fossils, and earth sciences in general as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Joan Wiffen's first discovery of dinosaur fossils in Aotearoa.

Two librarians in inflatable dinosaur costumes. One holds the book Dinosaurs love numbers, the other holds a book called Asteroids, Comets and Meteors

Asteroids, Comets, and Meteors? Important research for dinosaurs!

We have many exciting events planned for the holidays including a whole host of workshops with our friends at GNS Science where'll you'll be exploring topics like fossils, earthquakes, or petrology. Along with these events you'll be able to join in a CRAFTosaurus session, create a prehistoric soundscape at a Dinochorus workshop, attend a Dinosaur Dress-Up Storytime or Baby Roar and Rhyme session, or take part in a time-travel expedition throughout the library - will you be able to find all the dinosaur specimens before the asteroid strikes?

Want to know more about what will be going on in our libraries? We've published a story on our website with information about each of the programmes we'll be running, or head over to our event calendar for the full schedule of events.
