Whispers in the Wind: A collection of children's stories written and read by Wellington authors, will soon be launched.
Popular New Zealand authors include Joy Cowley, Fleur Beale, Janice Marriott, Barbara Else and more.
Generously sponsored by Creative New Zealand, this CD allows Wellington children's authors to create a closer connection to children, and for children to hear local authors telling or reading their own stories, which deepens their experience of the story.
All teachers and librarians know that children need good role models for reading. Hearing a teacher, a librarian or other adult read aloud allows a child to hear the phrasing, inflections and expressions that a good reader uses. Listening also develops a child's ability to imagine. How much more impact is there if the child knows the person who imagined the story is also reading it?
Through Whispers in the Wind authors and their stories come alive, are real and more authentic for children, igniting their love of reading and writing. Wellington City Libraries' overall objective has been to make this possible.
On sale from 27 November, this CD will be available at any branch library or email enquiries@wcl.govt.nz to purchase a copy.
A fantastic gift for any occasion! $20 per CD.
This CD was recorded at Life of Riley studio, Korokoro.
Every year thousands of avid readers and music lovers gather at Wellington Central Library for the summer book sale. And judging by its past popularity, this sale should be no different. Past buyers have used the sale to find the best book deals, to complete their personal collections or just to rummage and find a gem. If you love a bargain and love music or literature, you won't want to miss it. Book sale starts Tuesday 8 December, 9.30am and ends 21 December.
