Overdue policy

Overdue fees are charged from the day after the item was due, therefore items must be returned during opening hours on the due date to avoid incurring an overdue charge. This is in line with the Wellington City Libraries' Customer Charter. Notices are sent out after the item has been overdue for five days. Replacement costs are charged for lost or damaged items.

Interlibrary returns

An additional interlibrary return fee of $1 per item applies when a library item is returned to a library it wasn't issued from: as an example, books borrowed from Miramar Library are returned at Central Library. Returning items to the library you borrowed them from means they are back on the shelves sooner, for others to borrow. It means we can provide a more efficient service so that you get the most out of our libraries.

If you have any queries about overdue charges please e-mail us at enquiries@wcl.govt.nz or phone your local branch. Please have your library card number ready so we can check your record.

You can post overdue items and fees to us at PO Box 1992, Wellington. Cheques should be made out to Wellington City Council.
